Meet Terena Scott
I’m a teacher for the visually impaired, a writer, an artist, and the mother of a fierce young woman named Rhia.
For 30 years, I’ve been navigating the complicated world of caregiving, disability advocacy, and anticipatory grief. Along the way, I found purpose in the unexpected and beauty in the mess. My memoir Raising Rhia (She Writes Press, 2026) tells that story — unflinching, raw, and full of heart.
I write to connect. To reflect. To build community. And I believe in the power of storytelling to move us toward understanding, resilience, and joy.

Author Bio
Terena Scott’s work is fueled by her passion for art and her belief that everyone, including children with disabilities, has a right to self-expression. She embodies this belief through her work as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired while teaching art to children with complex medical needs. She also reads stories for visually impaired children on her YouTube channel, “Story Time with Miss Terena.” Terena’s daughter, Rhia, was born with multiple disabilities, including deaf-blindness. Since her daughter’s birth 30 years ago, Terena has navigated the challenges of caregiving, education, and advocacy, not only for her own daughter but for other disabled children and their families, helping people thrive in a world often unprepared for their needs. Terena lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
